Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a spiral galaxy located 100 million light years away in the constellation of Libra at a declination of -14 degrees.  It is a magnitude 12 galaxy which spans 4 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a Milky Way like diameter of 120,000 light years.  The disk is inclined about 25 degrees from edge-on to our view, with the near side of the disk towards the bottom of the image based upon the disk definition.

This is another one of those types of galaxies which I have posted lately that appears “quasi-flocculent”.  The arms and dark lanes are subtly defined in some places, but much of the disk looks mottled.  I think I see some evidence of small blue star clouds in the disk.  The core is offset a bit to the right, away from a possible companion just to the left of the disk.  I could find no information on this faint small galaxy.
